Running a show

Teleprompter (Beta)

Import Word, PDF, text or SRT/VTT subtitles; follow timecodes, track live segments and adjust screen text, tags and background independently.

Beta — available to organizations in early access. Ask us if you'd like to try it.

Switch on Teleprompter in Show Add-Ons, then click Teleprompter at the top of the show. Pop out opens the controls in their own window.

Your script

  • Add segments by typing, or Upload file (Word .docx, PDF, .txt/.md, or subtitles .srt/.vtt). Blank-line breaks in documents create segments. Word bold, highlights and supported colors carry over; PDF formatting varies. Plain text uses the prompter’s markup. Convert older .doc files to .docx first.
  • Template downloads a Word file listing every tag.
  • Click in the script and use the tag buttons to drop a tag at the cursor.

Importing SRT / VTT subtitles

  1. 1Before uploading, choose whether to leave Keep subtitle timecodes on. On keeps hidden timing markers; off imports only script text for manual scrolling.
  2. 2Click Upload file and select your .srt or .vtt. The file adds segments to the end of the existing script; it does not replace it. Remove unwanted segments with their delete control.
  3. 3Review the new segments. Cue numbers and subtitle codes are removed, wrapped lines join together, and pauses of at least two seconds start a new segment. Supported bold/italic tags become bold, and supported hex colors map to prompter colors.
  4. 4Keep the imported [AT hh:mm:ss.mmm] markers if you plan to use Follow timecodes. They are visible only to the operator, never spoken text on the reader screen.

Manual speed or Follow timecodes

When the script contains at least two usable, increasing timecode markers at different positions, Speed mode offers Manual speed and Follow timecodes. Keeping timecodes does not automatically select timed scrolling: choose Follow timecodes explicitly. Without usable markers, use Manual speed.

  • Manual speed uses the normal speed controls. Switching modes keeps your current reading position.
  • Follow timecodes adjusts the scroll pace between timing markers. Use Rate from 0.5× to 1.5× to slow down or speed up the sample pace.
  • −1s / +1s moves the reading position backward or forward by one timeline second. The Offset indicator records your nudges. Re-sync here clears that indicator; it is not synchronization to an external video or audio feed.
  • Pause / Play keeps your place. [PAUSE] waits for Resume, and [HOLD 5] adds a five-second hold rather than making the reader catch up afterward.

Following and folding segments

The active segment is marked Now reading with a progress bar; the next included segment is Up next. The line under Preview shows Segment N of M. Skipped segments are not part of the reading order.

  • Leave Collapse played on to fold completed segments to one line. The current segment stays open.
  • Click a folded segment’s name to reopen it for editing; click its Collapse button to refold it. Expand all opens played segments together. Toggle Collapse played off and on to reset the folded view.
  • The script list follows the active segment until you scroll it yourself. Jump to live, or the segment line under Preview, returns the list to the reading position without jumping the presenter’s script.
  • A segment’s Go button is different: it moves the presenter’s reading position to that segment.

Tags

TagWhat it does
[PAUSE]Stops scrolling until you press Play or Resume — good for applause.
[HOLD 5]Stops for 5 seconds, then carries on.
[SLOW]Slows down until [NORMAL].
[NEXT]Jumps to the next segment.
[END]Stops at the end of the script.
[LOOK UP]A presenter-visible cue chip; other examples include [BREATHE] and [APPLAUSE].
[CUE: Lower Third / Host]Prepares a show graphic and optional saved text row in Preview; it is not a spoken reminder.
[AT 00:00:12.500]An operator-only timecode anchor used by Follow timecodes.
[GFX 8 L2: Lower Third / Host]Takes the Host text row on overlay layer 2 for eight seconds.
[GFX OUT: Lower Third]Takes that show graphic off; [GFX OUT] clears live graphics.
(( … ))An operator-only note. Never shown to the presenter.
[GFX: Lower Third / Pastor Tom]Takes a graphic from this show, with an optional saved text row. Add a layer and time, e.g. GFX 8 L2.

GFX tags only fire when Auto graphics is on and the show page is open in the same browser. Auto graphics starts off; turn it on when you are ready for tags to trigger live graphics. GFX tags are hidden from the reader unless a screen turns on “Show GFX tags to reader”.

Screens and remote

Prompter screens and Phone remote start collapsed. Click their headings to open screen settings or the phone QR code. The ? beside Upload file opens file-format, subtitle-timecode and tag guidance.

Set a paired screen to Teleprompter. From the control room you can mirror, flip, change text size, margins, the reading line and transparency, and the screen updates live. Transparency is three independent sliders — Background, Text and Tags — so you can fade the script words and the cue chips separately from the background (for example over video). Choose the screen in Prompter screens before adjusting its settings. Apply to all prompter screens copies that screen’s settings to the others. Hidden timecodes remain invisible even if Tags is fully opaque; GFX tags need the separate Show GFX tags to reader option. Scan the phone remote code to control play, speed and segments from a phone.

Teleprompter uses cloud screen links. Local Hub does not render Teleprompter yet. Test your reader device and phone controls before a live show.
